i can confirm i had updated to the premium content before 0400 and had restarted the system at least twice without the boot.ini file and the system didnt complaint nor do i had any problem, file wasnt there although i rewrote it anyway and placed on his place, im using winxp+sp2
sample boot.ini:
[boot loader]
timeout=0
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
note this info is only valid if your operating system is indeed in the 1st partition of first disk and your system in c:\windows

ppl at ccp did one hell of a good job, its sad a little final mistake in deployment is spoiling one of the most awaited dates on the gaming world, i remember the first win2k installer in 1999 erasing partition table data <- that would be a real problem

Ok, i have uploaded a solution into my server for those that cannot boot his system at all, download bootntfs image diskette uncompress the file execute the content to make a floppy that will be able to access your ntfs disk drive, then copy the boot.ini file contained in there to your c:\
exe is a winimage executable hope it helps, remember your file system will be in d:\ (only while you are using the diskette that is) after booting with the diskette

Can someone explain, step by step, how to fix your computer without the XP cd-rom?
Some people talked about fixing XP within XP using a boot disk from bootdisk.com, but honestly I have no idea how do that. I'm sitting on a crappy laptop now, with my computer stuck in the vicious reboot-cycle.
I appriciate any help!
EDIT: Oh yeah, my Boot Menu recognizes my USB drive when I plug in my iPOD, so I'm wondering if I could use my iPOD as a boot disk of some sort? dunno how though

download the file, uncompress, place a diskette, execute exe, insert diskette into the laptop, boot to the diskette, copy boot.ini into your root filesystem
